We already have one dog, a Bichon Poodle, and I was so close t getting a second dog! The Bichon Poodle, Mia, is almost 9 years old and starting to get lazy and not playful haha. I took an animal class in school and I know all the pros and cons and problems, I'm totally aware. My mom is always home and then me and my brother are home after school. We were thinking about getting a Lhasa Bichon or Cavachon and we already had one picked out. Their reasons they decided that were against it was:1. It's too much work. "I don't want to be waking up in the middle of the night to take it outside."2. What if Mia and the new dog don't get along?3. The dog is 6 1/2 hours away, that's a long time with a puppy in the car. Then it was possible to fly it over for $150 and my mom's like that might be worth it4. What happens when we go on vacation? We currently have a family friend take care of Mia and they already have 3 other dogs, so my parents were like that's too much for them5. Twice the vet care costs. we aren't in a really tight financial situation, but my dad just isn't into spending money on another dog6. Poddy trainingGrooming, food, exercise, etc. isn't a concern, since I groom the dog myself and dogs eat for less than $1 a day Anything you have to help me would be great! Thank you!

    • Say your depressed. Say you ate getting bullied at school for being smart or being dumb say you need a friends to keep your mind off things... If that fails lock yourself in your room pretend to cry just say u need a "man's best friend" worked for me haha

    • I went through this, and i know how you feel. It took a lot of work for me,but it was worth it. First, i gathered all of my information and printed it out. I showed my mom, and she was a little convinced. I started working extra hard with my dig and made sure she was around to see it. I kept promising i would take care of the dog. I did a lot, and because of my work i'm getting my dog next sunday.

    • 1. Mom is probably glad Mia is well past the puppy stage, and she no longer has to get up and take a pup out to pee in the middle of the nite. Consider an adult dog thats already housebroken2. Yes, thats possible.. option here, go to a shelter or rescue and adopt.. the dogs can be introduced first to see if they get along or not. Mia is probably going to be more accepting of an adult than a pesky pup3. Ya, thats not really worth it for a mongrel pup. Find shelter or rescue closer to you and adopt a young adult dog.4. This is a good point... what solution do you have for caring for the dog when you go on vacation?5. Your parents have a point here. It doesnt matter if money isnt tight.. its your parents hard earned money, and they just dont want to spend it on another dog.6, again, an adult dg.

    • Mom and dad don't want a dog right now. You can get your own dog once you move out. Don't assume you know everything about your parents' finances. You don't. You just need to accept the word no, and move on. If my kids ever arguecwith me about getting another dog when I don't want one, I will flat out tell them no, and don't want to hear another word about it, and WILL put an immediate stop to it.Now to address your points.1. Mom and Dad are right. Especially with puppies. 2. Possible issue they don't want to deal with.3. Maybe. But no way should yall buy a puppy or dog before seeing it first. Especially the puppy mill puppies you're wanting. Certainly you learned about them in animal class, if the class was any good.4. And are you willing to take on 3 extra dogs when they go on vacation? 5. All the more reason not to get a dog if they don't want the extra expense. Their money, their decision. 6. Again, your parents will be doing all that work.7. Your mom doesn't want the work.

    • I got my second dog by promising my mom that I would take care of both of the dogs. 1. It's too much work. "I don't want to be waking up in the middle of the night to take it outside."A: say that you will do it, you can train your dog to hold it till morning. My dog holds it in until morning to go out to go potty.2. What if Mia and the new dog don't get along?A: My two dogs don't get along. Not a lot of dogs like another dog coming into the family, but you need to be willing to work with them, like my family and I are doing with our two. It might take a while, especially because smaller dogs can be very dominate. 3.The dog is 6 1/2 hours away, that's a long time with a puppy in the car. Then it was possible to fly it over for $150 and my mom's like that might be worth it.A: I would just got with the flying the pup over, it would cost a lot more to pay for gas and puppy potty stains in the car.4. What happens when we go on vacation? We currently have a family friend take care of Mia and they already have 3 other dogs, so my parents were like that's too much for them.A: Train the dogs to be crate trained, depending on how long the vacations are. If you know you are going on a long trip, look at hotels or motels in the vacation area that allow pets. There are actually a lot of places. You might have to pay a pet deposit, though.5. Twice the vet care costs. we aren't in a really tight financial situation, but my dad just isn't into spending money on another dog.A: feed your dog well and make sure they do not eat anything harmful or are near a sick dog. The SPCA has CHEAP shots for animals, so you can get their shots done there.6. Potty trainingA: Tell your family you will take care of it. Get a crate, puppy pads, and don't give up on the puppy!Keep trying and be patient. If you can't handle it, then get a puppy that is already potty trained.Hope this helped, good luck :)

    • You say you want a second dog because the one you currently have is old and does not want to play anymore. What will happen when the second dog gets older? He/She won't want to play much either so what then? Are you going to ask your parents for a third dog afterwards?

    • I say wait until you're older. It's great that you know all of the pros and cons about getting a dog. I'd say that every pet owner or want-to-be pet owners should know them. Waiting until you're older has several advantages:1) The dog would love you the most.2) You would be his/her master.3) It would be YOUR dog.4) You would have more time with it compared to the time you could spend with it now (because of school and your social life).and5) Waiting for something you really want makes it better.I don't think you should have to convince your parents into letting you get a dog. Maybe compromise, if you REALLY WANT ONE. They are a huge responsibility. I waited two years for my Yorkie, Louie. Guess what? Liver failure. 9 days in an emergency room. 9 months later a possible shunt. Has it still been worth it? Of course it has. I can't deny it. Just make sure you can handle the responsibility.

    • Seriously, "6. Poddy training" ?????Unless you have a job and are willing to pay for the second set of vet bills, the second dogs food, and it's spay/neuter there really is no reason they should to even consider it...Also, who does the exercising? Walking/running 2 dogs is a lot harder than just 1. If you really need to "convince them" it means you aren't ready for another. Your parents would know if they/you could handle another dog.If you want another dog it shouldn't be their job to raise/train/and feed it
