My dog keeps coughing and throwing up clear and white stuff and he won't eat. What's wrong? What do I do?

He's only been dong this for a day and he will only eat human food and drink milk. I haven't took him to the vet yet but I will if I need to! But what is wrong with him?He also won't drink water.

    • My friend has an Affenpinscher puppy that showed these symptoms along with disorientation. She was only 3 months old and was barking at my friend in between vomiting spells. My friend thought she was poisoned. She took the dog to a holistic vet. It turned out the puppy was having stomach and kidney trouble from her dog food (Innova Evo). It caused her to spit up foam. My friend blamed herself for listening to the holistic vet in the first place. Sadly, the puppy died from kidney failure. You shouldn't take these symptoms lightly. My friend's puppy was in perfect health before this happened. Vets are not there to take your money, but to help your dog. The lesson here is: Listen to an see a real vet, not a holistic vet....and don't ignore symptoms. I really hope your dog is okay. My friend's pup acted the same way. It could also be kennel cough.

    • It may be as simple as Kennel Cough (Bordatella). But the big danger is that your dog might have an intestinal blockage - has he been pooping OK?See the vet for antibiotics in the case of Kennel Cough and isolate from other dogs for a week or so. The danger to your dog is developing pneumonia.A blockage is directly life-threating and needs immediate veterinary treatment.

    • He probably ate something he shouldn't have and is more than likely scared to eat anything... my dog did the same thing...only when i asked ... people said i was a terrible person who didn't deserve a dog and that i was stupider than she... she ate poop and randomly had a bad case of diarahha for just one minute or so. but more than likely, he will be fine. just monitor him 24/7 try to get him to potty, to clear his belly or try to get him to eat grass (causes them to throw up - they do this naturally as well) but if it gets worse over today, take him to the vet.

    • My dog had this and it was just kennel cough from when i was on holiday.. he had a course of anti biotics and it settles down.. if your dog has this make sure you dont let it near another dog for at least 4 weeks.. I would definately go to the vet asap though just to make sure.... you wouldnt have these symptoms and not go to the doctors would you ?/?Hope the dog is ok and nothing serious .Best wishes x

    • The most obvious answer is Kennel Cough. These sound like fairly typical symptoms. Even if vaccinated against this, some dogs will still pick it up although the good news is vaccinated dogs normally throw it off pretty fast. These days vets do seem to be prescribing a short course of antibiotics, which although not curing the KC because it's a virus, will help prevent it going to pneumonia. It's especially serious in the puppy and the elderly, for this reason. Keep your dog completely away from any other dog until you know for sure what's going on. It's highly contagious and passes from dog to dog like wild-fire. And if you have to take him to your vet, keep him outside until the vet is ready to see him - do not take him into the waiting area to pass it on to other dogs in there.Don't give him milk- cows milk at any rate. He can have goats milk, but he really doesn't need this.Dogs can be pretty miserable with this, but really the only thing is to keep him warm, try to keep him hydrated (but don't force him) and you can if the coughing is bad, offer him cough medicine - we use Benelyn in the UK. Don't do this until you know exactly what he has however.
