My dog pees when he gets scared. How can i make him stop?

|: sometimes my dad even kicks my dog and hits him when he gets near my dad because after my dog got scared and pee'd on the floor my dad kicked him. and idk if its my dog growing older hes over 8 years but yeah /: and i want him to stop i always try to be gentle with him when i approach him too.

your dad should not kick him thats just mean and its natural for dogs to pee wen ther scared or excited so thers not much you can do he might grow out of the phase

Tell your dad NOT to kick or hit your dog! That is just cruel and uncalled for. No wonder your dog is scared! He is getting beat up by someone so much bigger than him.

Sometimes that happens when dogs get excited, scared or when they have health issues. Since he is getting up there in age, it'd be wise to take him to the vet to make sure he doesn't have a UTI or something. Also, when the dog does that, everyone needs to be calm and take the dog outside. Be sure to praise him when he urinates outside.And let your dad know that he's only making things worse. Not only is he hurting the dog, he's making the dog scared of going to the bathroom. That will only increase accidents in the house...and many of them will end up in "hidden" places in the dog's attempt to hide what he now considers a naughty act. Sad.

If your father stopped abusing your dog, that would go a long way in helping your dog. My dog was abused the first year of her life, so when we got her from the shelter she would pee every single time she saw my dad, even though he had done nothing to her. It took her a few years to stop peeing whenever she got scared. She is 10 years old now and stopped doing that about 5 years ago.I'm sorry to say this, but your father is the problem. When you lose control of your bladder when faced with fear, it is because you are terrified out of your mind. When your father kicked him, your dog learned to be afraid of the pain and when he's afraid he thinks that he will be hurt again. He associates the fear with pain, which causes more fear, which causes him to pee on the floor.

My dog is a rescued dog. When we first got him, if my husband so much as gave him a wrong look, he rolled over on his back and peed all over himself. You should never ever kick a dog. And this is coming from an old school, country, deep in the heart of Texas, dogs are not little people, pick up a dog by the scruff kind of woman. Not an animal activist in the least. A dog, no matter what it has done, unless it is attacking you unprovoked, should never ever be kicked. And this is a prime example why. Your dog is very scared of your dad. It's good that you are gentle with him, but he is not a person. When he is around you, he needs to know you are strong and able. Dogs perceive pity and coddling as weakness, which only feeds his fear. Keep the dog away from your dad. Stop coddling, and be a good leader for your dog instead. First of all, injuring/beating an animal is a felony in some areas, and secondly, animals don't associate things they do with violence well, or they will associate it incorrectly (ex: dog pees, 5 min later dad comes in and sees you cleaning it up with white cloth while dog watches. Then dad kicks dog, dog associates kick with the white cloth it was looking at) ya not too good on an example but...ya. My advice is to after he pees take him to time out (say a kiddie pen) and he doesn't get attention during the time out (say...5min) You should also make sure to COMPLETELY remove the oder of the urine with a special pet...stuff (basically not cover up but remove the odor) because dogs are more likely to pee in an area they have peed in before (think how dog packs scent mark their territory...if they went into another dog/pack's territory and peed there that dog/pack would know that dog trespassed) but I haven't ever had a dog...I just watch a ot of animal and pet care shows and read a ot of animal/pet care stuff.....hope this helps
