    • Do you mean the Black Russian Terrier? Originally developed by breeding Giant Schnauzer with the standard Airedale, just recently recognized as a breed, commonly used in police work. Some weigh as much as 140+ lbs.http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/blackrussianterrier.htmOn the other end of the scale you have the yorkshire terriers, some of which only weigh 2-3#, with the ideal weight being about 7#.http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/yorkshireterrier.htm

    • The Black Russian Terrier is one of those "terrier in name only" dogs, I think. The AKC (where it was recently recognized as an AKC breed - other KCs have recognized it for a while) puts it in the Working group, and not the Terrier group. The BRT has Airedale Terrier in its lineage, but I don't think there's enough Airedale in it to consider it a true "terrier" since there are so many other breeds that were used to make the BRT (including the Rottweiler, Ovcharka, Newfoundland, and Great Dane, among others).http://www.akc.org/breeds/black_russian_terrier/history.cfmAs far as terriers, the largest would probably still be the Airedale. Smallest in the Terrier group from the AKC would probably be the Cairn or the Westie, but the smallest that has the name "Terrier" would be the Yorkie, which was developed out of much older breeds of English Terriers.
