What is the best dog to have in an apartment?

We are only allowed dogs from size small-medium that don't bark excessively. What type of dog do you think would be best?There is nothing wrong with having a dog in an apartment. In fact, most of the people in the complex do have dogs and don't have alot of problems. The only dog Ive actually heard in this building is from the new ppl that just moved in. Im not too concerned about the barking, just trying to get opinions.

something small and doesn't shed... poodleumm quiet dogs: basenji, have no bark.. they chirp instead..i would stay away from toy dogs actually they bark alot when people knock on doors or if they hear sounds they arnt use toa small cute mixed breed would probably be your best bet

shih-tzu. I have one in an apartment and he hardly barks. He is very loving too!

My pom is the perfect inside dog. He has no desire to be anywhere I am not so he is ideal. Look for dogs that are reliant on people for entertainment. If it is a dog that plays alot alone then you don't want to coop him up inside. Also look for dogs that are easy to potty train.

Probably one of those purse puppies like the one Paris Hilton - just don't get an ugly chiwawa. Get one with substance!

We have a Beagle, and that's working out fine. He's 25 pounds, I wouldn't go much bigger than that. Also, the only reason a dog barks excessively is if it's improperly trained. So, be sure to invest in some obedience classes.

You're looking for a dog thats 20 pounds or so or smaller.Dingos can't bark, but are expensive. Chichucha's have nervous problems- thats why they act like they've had too much coffee to drink. Shiz-Tzu might be a good choice.DON'T GET A JACK RUSSEL TERRIER! Jacks are smarter than most people.Why not get a dog off "Death Row" at the Humane Society and see what they've got to offer AND their advice?

schipperke pronounced skipper keythey are great little dogs. they adapt to their environment, they don't yap like a lot of little dogs. very trainable. sweet personality.

A stuffed animal would be best since it cannot bark! Living in a place where a barking dog is not allowed will only be a problem if the dog decides to be a dog, and bark! I suggest you get a cat instead that way you will not have to be placing an ad in the paper later on looking for a good home for your new dog!

We have an English Spring Spaniel that never barks. Only when he sees a dog on our lawn that's not supposed to be there. And he's a good size dog for an apartment.

Small dogs do tend to bark a bit. But I would suggest a miniature schnauzer(however you spell it) they are small, they don't shed, and they are good dogs. Or I would suggest a pug, very cute and compassionate.

Go to the Purina website and take the questionnaire and it will help you find a dog that will be good for apartment living plus match your other requirements to fit with your family. Most dogs can be trained to not be a barker. It takes a sometime and training. Good luck.

Well, I don't think you should have a dog in an apartment but a yorkshire terrier would be good and they are so cute--pugs are also good dogs
