    • the great pyrenees is what i would go for they are very loyal.! they protect the land they live on, their family, and the other animals that they live with. but i would narrow your list down and research the ones that are left and go from there.

    • actually the two dogs that are the top breeds known to protect, love, respect, and fight for there humans are:the american pitbull terrier<3and the gorgous karelian bear dog.both can withstand pain, and will fight till the death to keep there pack safe.

    • What is this? Are you doing a survey or a school paper? If you are actually trying to select an LGD, you wouldn't have posted a list of all the LGD breeds you could find. There is not ONE BEST LGD breed. A lot of what's best depends on the owner and the owner's needs and the owner's personality.Keep in mind that which dog is "the best" depends on several factors.Where will the dogs be (what state / country)? What will the dogs ACTUALLY be guarding? My personal preferences are the Great Pyrenees and the Komondor. The Akbash, Anatolian and Kuvasz are more likely to attack a predator than other breeds in the list. The Great Pyrenees and Komondor are more likely to guard by intimidation, by barking and inserting themselves between the livestock or family (pack) member for protection than attacking. They use attack last in their arsenal of methods, and intimidation first. Noone here knows ALL those breeds. The dogs that are called Sheepdogs you should see if they are in the herding group or the working group. Herding breeds tend to work better with a handler. Working dogs were bred more to make independent decisions so the shepherd could sleep at night, so they are more challenging to train. If you're actually trying to select a breed, rather than ask a generic question this way, you should google breed name, breed traits and read up on each breed to see which one matches your personality, activity level and your needs. In any case, you should have given us a more clear idea of why you are asking this question. It would help us understand how to help you better. -!-

    • Most of those dogs are either hard to find in the US or not in the US at all.The most common flockguardian dogs in this country are (in no particular order)Anatolian Shepherds, Great Pyrenees, Akbash (white Anatolian), Maremma Sheepdog. You will also find crosses of these dogs as many people cross breed their livestock guardians.Which breed is best suited to you will depend on you, your family, your fencing, what other animals you have, how close your neighbors are and how much experience you have with large stubborn dogs. Are you in town or in the country? All of the flockguardian dogs bark, especially at night. If they stay outside at night, you can be sure they will be barking. That is how they keep predators away.Close neighbors do not always appreciate that though. If you have other dogs, most flockguardian dogs do best with a dog of opposite gender and may not get along with a dog of the same gender. All flockguaridans are nomadic by nature and will want to wander and expand their territory so it is important to have secure fencing. All of them are fairly stubborn and independent. The Pyrenees is probably the softest temperament but is still stubborn and independent thinker. They do have a heavy, long coat, though and grooming can be a chore. All of them have the natural instinct to protect what they feel is theirs. Some of them are easier to live with though.Anatolians can sometimes be hard to handle, same with Akbash.A lot of people cross Anatolians and Pyrenees and they always seem to be good dogs with stable personalities.Im not condoning cross breeding but, our rescue group place a lot of these crosses every year and all of them are very nice dogs.Whichever breed you choose, make sure you do as much research as possible. Talk to other owners, contact the breed specific rescue group if there is one. They will not sugar coat the dog to "make a sale".Good luck!
