I doubt very much that your dog "thought" anything besides "Someone's taking MY BONE."In any case, your 4-yr old must not be allowed - ever - to mess with your dog when he has treats, toys, is eating, or is chewing on a bone. Put the dog in a crate when it's time for these things if you cannot manage your 4-yr old. See an APDT trainer as soon as you can to learn how to stop this problem from escalating.
