    • the schnauzer.how old are your kids?maybe a standard schnauzer is a better idea?you know, all dogs can bite,no matter how small they are:if the boys carry the dog around, the dog will get really fed up.i had a friend growing up,her parents got a pekingese for her:by the time the dog reached adult age, nobody could pick him up:he was picked up and dropped many times.Oh,and he hated all kids.we could not play with him at all.

    • Well, there's no such thing as a mini shih-tzu. Those only come in one size, and anyone who says otherwise is either a scamming BYB who doesn't care about their dogs or someone gullible enough to support said scammers. But what breed would be best to get depends on the ages and maturity of your kids; if they're very young and don't know how to be gentle, then a very small dog would be more likely to get hurt by them.

    • Here's a little warning for ya: Schnauzers are adorable but they are very high-strung and their bark (which is frequent) will shatter your eardrums. (Dont say you werent warned!!) :)

    • Min Schnauzer for a first time owner is good,,,,,why, they are great with kids, good guard dogs, house-train easy, and love to be with their humans...they will not be ignored, and love to walk, run and play fetch..very intelligent and noble dogs....and no matter what anyone says, Schnauzers are not barkers, they dont bark alot, but will let you know when someone comes around...I have been around and raised this breed for over 15 yrs, and they are a fantastic breed to own..once you own one of them, it will be the only breed you will ever want again..........any dog, if you allow it to, will stand around and bark, so no matter the breed, make sure the dog gets some good obedience classes....legit:;The min schnauzer,,,but you need to research any breed before getting it...any breed....these little guys are rugged and are house pets, not yard dogs........they do not shed, so will need grooming at least 2 times a month......to keep the coat in good conditionthe food to feed them would be Taste of the Wild or Wellness, Canidaedo not feed any dog any store bought brands, they are junk......good luck, and I think you will be very happy with a Min. SchnauzerMake sure dog is kept up on its shots and wormings at all times...regular vet checks...Put on Heartguard Plus this is to prevent heart worms and hook worms...chewables beef flavor is bestand also give Pet Tabs Plus, according to weight on label, I give Demon his 2 times a day, one in am and one in pm...Most Min. Schnauzer will get around 13-15 lbs......dont over feed and let get fat....colors are Salt and Pepper, Black or Silver, anything else is not AKC standard.....and shows poor breeding in the bloodlines if any other colorThey are great little guys and girls, and so love to sleep with you..and the proper breed name is Miniature Schnauzer, this breed has no mini to it....no such thing as a mini Schnauzer, only miniature....which is totally different.they areMiniature, Standard or Giant Schnauzerslike any breed unless socialized, any breed can have problems with other dogs in the home....a Miniature is not too small for children of your kids age...they are not fragile, and have no issues with snapping at kids...I have been around and raised and showed this breed for over 15 yrs, never had any with kids problems, other animal problems or issues.but again, all dogs must be socialized and trained properly, or any breed can cause headaches galore...this breed is not a snappy or yappy breed.....no matter what anyone else says.......

    • Personally I wouldnt get a mini dog for your boys. I would get something bigger than them, but no bigger than a labrador, as they are only young still. But being young and boys they love to play fetch and other games with the dog, but need to be able to wrestle it as a game too. If they do that to a shitzu then the dog will get smashed up. Plus in my opinion smaller dogs arent as fun

    • Get a Schnauzer they are way cooler and have the best characters! Really cheeky little fellas, they are Peter Pan dogs! My Schnauzers stayed active and just like a young puppy even near the end of their lives! They are also a lot more robust and your children will love running around with it. They are great little gaurd dogs too! although if you want a lap dog go for a shitzu and Schnauzers still need quite a bit of exercise even though they are small or they can be little trouble makers!P.s the statement by someone else above 'The Miniature Schnauzer can have troubles with other dogs,' Is not really true! all dog breeds can have trouble with other dogs if not properly socialised! I have never come across a Schnauzer yet thay has been aggressive to other dogs!P.s.s Plus they are much more intelligent!
