    • Ask the dog to sit and make eye contact. Then say "let's go" and begin to walk. If the dog pulls, stop walking immediately, ask it to sit again, and after he has, say "let's go" again and walk. Every time he pulls, stop again and make him sit. This will teach him the walk only continues if he does not pull, and it's called a life reward.

    • I am assuming your dog is on a leash while your walking him outside.... But anyway....Start by teaching your dog the "Heel!" command. Walk him in the backyard with his leash on & make different turns so he has to watch you. If he gets ahead of you, say "Heel!"& if he slows down & walks behind you, reward him with a treat. With dogs, the leader of the "pack" should always be leading & in front. You need to teach your dog you are the boss & you are the "pack leader".Good luck! ~ Blue

    • I think you may be getting way ahead of yourself if your dog is pulling. You first must teach the dog a good loose leash walk before you can even begin to teach a real "heel".Heel is usually taught in an advanced obedience curriculum. If you have not taken any formal classes, it would be a good idea to start now, and the trainer will progress you into heel training when your dog is ready. If you ask too much from a dog who is not trained, the dog will simply be frustrated, and not learn. And saying the word "heel" does not guarantee that the dog will know what that is.Last but not least, where a dog walks is irrelevant in the scheme of things, as long as the dog has good leash manners and responds to your commands. Heel would be the dog walking beside you. Loose leash walking would be the dog walking near you, in front, behind, or wherever, but not making the leash taut.An excellent methond for teaching loose leash wlking:http://www.amazon.com/My-Dog-Pulls-What-Do/dp/1929242239
