You can not train a cat to walk on a leash.

A lot like a dog. You just have to make sure that you start while it's young. You can't teach an old cat new tricks. Start in the house and coax it with some of its favorite treats while it is on the leash. Tug to get it started (if needed) and praise and reward it when it comes.
