How do I keep my cat from clawing the couch?

I have had my cat for over 5 years now and just recently she started to claw the couch.

bring it to the vet and get your cat declawed but its just for the 2 front paws or caps for its nails experiance i have 12 pets

Trim the nails. You can get these nail covers that will prevent damage. Have a spray bottle of water near the couch to spray her if she does it again.

Get a spray bottle with a nozzle, fill with water and each time he/she does that spritz it. He/she will eventually learn that it's not ok.

theres really no way to stop your cat from doing that cause your cat loves to claw your couch well buy it more toys

Spray it in the face with a spray bottle (water, of course) and say NO. It will eventually learn that it is a bad thing to claw the couch.

Is she getting enough attention from you????? You can buy or make a cat scratch post, put a little catnip on it.You can fill a spray bottle full of water, and give her a squirt when she does scratch your couch. That could be a fun game!or get another couch for yourself!!!

Maybe she's not getting enough attention lately? Or, check her nails, because she could have snagged one on something and she could have an infected nail (one of mine had that problem.)

um..... you can get a clean spray bottle and fill it up with water and spray them every time it does it because if you hit or yell at the cat it wont know why but it doesn't like water and water is harmless and it will get your point across

Four Paws Cat and Kitten Repellant. It is sold at pet smart or any of those pet stores like it. It kinda pricy but worth it. It is a spray that you just spray on and it keeps the kitty away

have the vet take its front claws out.

You could try Feliway, it works for stopping urination outside the litter box and supposedly clawing. I can attest to the peeing thing but haven't tried for the clawing problem.

Get a scratching post. Squirt the sucker every time she tries. Kick her in the ass when she tries. Put old carpet over top of where she claws the most so she'll claw that instead

i had that problem,whenever i saw my cat scratching the couch,i sprayed him with a water bottle...within a week my cat was so trained he never went near the couch again...trust me it works like a charm...or get the cat a scratch pad
