Can hookworm eggs still infect the puppy?

I took my puppy to the vet last Friday and she has hookworm, the vet gave her a dewormer. How long does it take for the dewormer to work and will the eggs still infect my puppy after the dewormer kills the adult worms?I'm not sure what type of dewormer it was, the vet gave it to her himself.He said it would kill the adult worms and next vet visit the dewormer he gives will kill the eggs.
