I know that dogs are aloud to have cheese, rice, boiled chicken, and peanut butter. I have a problem with the peanut butter though. My friend told me that peanut butter gets stuck to their gums and can mess the gums up. They then will need to get surgery. Is this true? I think for that to happen it depends on the dog. I give my dog lots of water after it because I know she will be thirsty after it. My friend also gives her dog chocolate. I told her chocolate is really bad for dogs. It is right?

    • Your friend sounds pretty ignorant. Put some peanut butter in your mouth. Is it still stuck to your gums after an hour? Probably won't be for the dogs either. Have you heard of Kongs? Those are toys you can stuff peanut butter into and the dog will keep themselves busy trying to lick it out.Chocolate can cause many problems with dogs, including death. • Dogs were meant to process meats the best, and some have a tooth for veggies and fruits. Most grains aren't good for them, cereal grains like corn and wheat being the worst. While dogs love cheerios, old hot dog buns and such, it's not good for them. Rice, and oatmeal, are added to dog food to give it texture, and many vets recommend it for dogs with upset stomachs, paired with lean ground beef or boiled chicken. Any meat without spices, however, is good for them. Dogs can even eat raw meats without getting sick, but you want to serve this somewhere that's easy to clean up because we can still get salmonella. I've used cheese and peanut butter to trick my dogs to take pills, as well as potato. On special occations, they get fruits, veggies, and yogurt when I have it left over and won't need it. The kicker with human foods is that dogs like it better than their own, and some people wind up cooking for their dogs. If given in little bits, at infrequent times they are less like to "count" on the yummies being there. It's also a good idea to prep food or snacks while they are occupied in another room or outside, so they do not see the chicken go from the pan to their bowl, or the peanut butter from the fridge to their toy. Sugary sweets are not good at all, especially chocolate because it releases endorphins. For us humans, it gives us a happy feeling because our brains know how to process the endorphins right. Dogs don't have that function, so in large amounts it can do a lot of damage. It's like us drinking liquor you can do it, yes, but your body can't handle it right in large amounts and leads to alcohol poisoning, liver and kidney failure.
