How do I put a warm compress on my dog?

My beagle has a slipped disc in his back. The vet gave him pain medicine and told my husband to put a warm compress on his back 3 to 4 times a day. I just need suggestions on how to do this, luckily he is a beagle and therefore isn't very active.

    • Simple methods..Take a hand towel. Dunk it in some fairly hot (not super hot) water. Squeeze the excess moisture out...but not bone dry. Fold it up... slide it into an appropriate sized ziplock bag. Zip it shut...and wrap it in a very light towel, piece of flannel or a thin cloth placed between the dog and the compress. IF you used a microwave safe bag you can rewarm it RIGHT in the baggie. Here's also the instrs. for rice sack heat packs. Skip all the fancy stuff...and just slide it into a little fabric sack. #1http://tipnut.com/make-your-own-microwave-heating-pad/#2http://www.urbanthreads.com/pages?id=224#3http://www.loveyourbaby.com/rice-heat-pack.htmlIn a pinch I have used a cooked a potato (microwaved), wrapped it up in a damp towel and carried it out to the barn to hot pack for a horse's lower leg. Worked slick...and the hot spud kept the towels warm for a long time. ALWAYS MAKE SURE it's not too hot. Above all... DO NO HARM. Good luck!.
