Why do some people say that chocolate is bad for dogs?

I don't feed my dog chocolate main reason she doesn't like it, but I'm just curious to why is bad?

It sets off a reaction and can kill the dog.

While a little bit now and then doesn't hurt a big dog, it's very poisonous to a small dog. Now a lot of chocolate is poisonous to a big dog. It all depends on the size.

Chocolate contains theobromine. Dogs metabolize this very slowly, and it can cause poisoning if enough is eaten.

From what I've heard, it clogs up their arteries. I DON'T KNOW THIS FIRST HAND!!! That's just what I've HEARD! My 65 pound dog is fine with a LITTLE chocolate now and again, but I don't know how she would be with more. I've never tried it - just in case! Every few months, I'll let her have a couple of M&M's, or things like that that I am having at the time, and she's fine. But as I said, I've never tried more, and about it clogging up their arteries, that is just what I've heard, I don't know if it is true. Good Luck! (with finding an answer)

Chocolate is poisonous to dogs. Just because a dog likes something doesn't mean it's good for them.

It causes hemolytic anemia in the dog, basically makes the red blood cells burst so there aren't enough, hence anemia.

well it depends on the breed of the dog to.my mom used to feed her poodle a few m&m everynight never did anything to her so i think it is a myth but wouldn't chance giving a small dog to much
