Is there a home remedy that anybody knows of, to take of hot spots for your dog?

A hot spot is a place on a dog where it starts as a flea bite and then over night the dog has scratched the bite raw.

A flea bite is only one cause--which the solution would be to get rid of the fleas. However, hot spots can occur from other irritants such as allergies, disease, etc. Suggest you have your dog checked by a vet.

You can clip the area along with a good sized border to let more air at the skin and then clean it with a mild antiseptic solution. Some people use povidone-iodine or hydrogen peroxide. It could be infected and, in that case, would need a trip to the vet for antibiotics.This could also be a symptom of an underlying problem including pain in the area that is not related to fleas.
