I live together with my female cousin who is 10 years older than me. A cute little male pomeranian lives with us, and we both love him to death. Now he's 4 years, and ever since a year ago I have been considering to neuter him. Because when I walked him, his hormone kicked in and he started rivalry with any male dog he came across. He's only nice to female dogs, which is why I suspect his hormone is at fault. He challenged every male dog, no matter if it's toy poodle, dachshund, maltese, shih tzu, and recently a Golden Retriever and Pitbull!!!But my cousin is disagreeing about neutering our dog because she thought we will rip out his manliness. I think, this is not about manliness, this is about our dog's life. I'm always concerned if we came across any male dog, and I'm worried about the Golden and Pitbull attacking my dog if they're losing the string. My cousin have never walked him so she had never seen my Pom getting in fight, so when I told her about the dog fighting, she just said 'they just play around'. I know very well they're not playing around and our beloved dog's life is in great danger. What should I do about my cousin? I don't want to wait until my dog is bitten and bleeding even though my cousin might believe my story after that (BUT I DON'T WANT THAT TO HAPPEN!)

    • At 4 years old he now has "Learned" behaviour and castrating him will not alter this behaviour.Training is the answer.Sounds like he has "small dog syndrome" towards other dogs.http://www.perfectdogtraining.com/articles/dog-training/small-dogMore info and help>>>

    • Forget about 'ripping out his manliness'. This is a human reaction to neutering. However, what he's doing may well not be improved by castration. The only certainty with having this done, is no puppies. The rest is down to training and if he's like this at 4 years, I seriously doubt castration is going to stop what's going on with other dogs. He has a typical small dog attitude, and this needs to be corrected - but not by using the knife. My opinion. Just keep him on his lead around other dogs, so there should be limited possibility of him being involved in a fight.

    • Neutering has many controversial points and your problem can be solved easily by simply working on dog to dog aggression;http://www.dog-obedience-training-review.com/dog-to-dog-aggression.htmlNeutering does NOT change any distinctive maleness in male dogs nor does it always stop any aggression in the male, particularly this kind of aggression which has little to do with hormone activity and more to do with "resource guarding people"...in other words you. Here are two interesting articles written by professionals that cut through the myths and tell you the truth;http://www.associationofanimalbehaviorprofessionals.com/effects_of_neutering.htmhttp://www.caninesports.com/SpayNeuter.html Dr Chris Zink is a canine sports vet, well-known in dog circles.
