How to Build a Proper Spring Pole?

My American Pit Bull Terrier/Australian Shepherd mix goes CRAZY over ropes! He has this sudden obsession with them. He also loves to jump and chase pretty much anything, probably because of the herding breed in him.My mother said that once we finish his new dog house (it is taking a little while since we are adding heating/cooling affects to it and little doggie doors) she wants to build "one of those big ropes with the knots that they dangle from"... Ha ha. I asked her if she meant a spring pole and she was like "Yeah, that is what they are called. It would be great exercise for him."So I was wondering, how should I build a PROPER spring pole for a 3 year old, 25" tall, 65-75lbs male? He has pretty strong jaws, but I don't want to immediately put him on a huge pole.
