    • It could be ear mites or an ear infection. Take the dog to the vet and have the vet show you how to keep the ears clean while you're at it.

    • You really need to take your dog to the Vet I understand you don't have the money but some vet will do payments it shouldn't be that expensive either. There are med's offered at pet stores but you don't know what exactly it is and treating your dog for the wrong problem without medical advice can do more harm then good sometimes. It could have a yeast infection or ear mites or worse a foxtail! but you need to get it checked professionally.

    • Take him to the vet- is sounds like an ear infection. The treatment is easy: antibiotics, and liquid ear cleaner to use regularly as part of hygiene. As well, they have drops to put in to help clear it up. We have a Beagle who is 4 and has had 2 ear infections- both in the spring so we think it's due to allergies. Now, he gets allergy shots every May to help and he has not had one since we started. If the infection is bad enough, they will have to use a sedative to cleanse the ear. Get him to the vet NOW to avoid this. We haven't experienced that as yet but I clean his ears weekly with Otic cleanser for pets. It helps a ton. Good luck to you and I hope your pup is feeling better really soon!Edit: It's not that expensive for this treatment- I think our vet charged us $100.00 but it didn't need to be cleansed- just gave meds, cleaner, and drops and the infection cleared up.

    • Dogs absolutely get ear infections. It's not necessarily earmites or any kind of bug. Problem is, you really do need to have a vet look at him, because the specific treatment depends on the specific problem. I've never heard of any truly effective homeopathic remedies you could use. Why not take your dog to your local humane society? They charge far less than private vets do. Good luck.

    • If the ear is painful, then he more than likely has a ear infection. He really needs to see a Vet and be put on antibiotic ear drops. You can try cleaning the ears every 3 days with plain mineral oil. Put a small amount in the ear (about a dropper full) massage the base of the ear and wipe the excess out with cloth or cotton (do not use q-tips!) Allow him to shake his head after you clean them, this will help get the dirt and debris out.Ear infections left untreated can lead to many problems. The longer you let it go, the more difficult and expensive to treat and the worse it can get.

    • Hi Captain,There are many factors coming into play here as to what exactly will be causing the itchiness and soreness. Please review the top weblink below for further information.German Shephards are commonly susceptible to an environmental, pollen allergy reaction type condition called atopic dermatitis. One personal suggestion? On my German Shephard, I had to flush his ear with luke warm saline, holding it in there for 60 seconds, then letting him shake it out. After that, I used natural cotton swabs with rubbing alcohol which cools and also sterilizes. Then i put pure vitamin E oil all around in his ear for about a week. That seemed to help him and his ear a lot. Just thought you might also want to give that a try. Some conditions, whether allergy, ringworm, flea or mite related - if left untreated, become even more expensive, if or when surgery is required to deal with the unattended condition.Your area's specific mite/flea/ pollen situations, along with possible allergies have to be considered.Captain, I gladly forward to you at the bottom below, a weblink that will put you in touch with a panel of volunteer specialists online who can give you some area specific answers and much more further insight specific to your dog's habits, actions, and reactions.A quote from the bottom link provided below:[www.WhyDoesMyPet.com.] :"Veterinarians, Vet Technicians, Nurses, Trainers, Behaviorists, Breeders and Pet Enthusiasts are here to answer your pet questions and concerns… Our dedicated community of caring experts are waiting to offer you advice, second opinions and support."I hope this helps you and good luck with your dog.
