I'm thinking of getting a dog, it will definitely be a small dog I'm thinking of a pomeranian. Can someone make a list of what they payed at first and monthly? I'm thinking of feeding it pedigree? Or is there a better brand for this breed? I already have a dog carrier as I bought it for my rabbits not long ago. How much is insurance for a pomeranian approximately as well?

    • pedigree is horrible, if you buy good dog food for 40$ itll last you like 2-3 months, so it will be like 20 monthly which is good. look at brands like blue buffalo. a pom doesnt require much besides grooming, just make sure to have like a couple hundred dolloars just in case of in emergency.

    • It really depends on the dog itself. I have been very fortunate with my dog. I got him at 8 weeks old and he is now 15. He has been a very inexpensive dog. In his whole life, he has never had to go to the vet except for his yearly shots. Only twice has he had to be taken to the vet for other reasons. The first time, he injured his back. The second time, just last month, he had a stroke. Other than having him neutered which cost me $70.00, he has never been sick. He is a smaller dog and it costs me $14.99 every 3 months for a bag of food, he eats Iams, and $14.00 every 3 months for a large bag of duck jerky as his treats.....My friends dog, a Cocker Spaniel has cost them a fortune. Literally. That dog has to be groomed every 6 weeks. $40.00 each time...She has had so many ear infections that I lost track. Each time they have had to pay for a vet visit and medications....She is 16 years old now. She eats Iams too and so the food cost is the same as mine. $14.99 every 3 months. But, they have spent thousands on her over the past 16 years....So, it's impossible to say how much your dog will cost. If you are lucky and she has no genetic problems or is in good health in general, all you will have to pay for are the annual shots and food and treats.

    • First of all, how long are you keeping this dog? In order to get a good dog, check a lot of sites to see a good price. In all, keeping the dog(for a year) will cost you around 500 and over.I dont know the exact price, but something like that. Possibley much more. Some dogs cost more money because it might be trained better, or has better health. Some dogs cost more because of how to keep care of it. Like every time you want to give a haircut to a poodle, it will cost 200 bucks because of the fur it has that is so curly. Or if you have a dog that gives a lot of fur, then you need to buy stuff to get rid of it. These are just some stuff about keeping a dog and its cost, but you can find out more else where.

    • Around $500 a year average.PLEASE dont buy!!!! ADOPT a pup, there´s millions of dogs out in shelters. When you adopt you save 2 lives, the dog you’re adopting, and the one who takes its place at the shelter. Besides, there’s no better dog and companion than an adopted one in my own experience. They do whatever they can to please you and thank you for the 2nd chance you gave him/her.Think twice before buying from a breeder, who treats dogs as a production factory.Watch this video if you plan to breed or buyhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ly746C05Bi0ADOPTING SHOWS GREATNESS.

    • I know you didn't mention it, but adopting is the best option! You can find unwanted poms at shelters that need homes. Especially if you look on petfinder or other adopting sites! They have specific searches where you can look for breeds. But yes, the main bill for me has been food. In the beginning you have bills for spaying or neutering, and shots. I think the one dog I had was neutered for $70. They are now saying the flea medication you put on cats and dogs backs are fatal. So do home care natural cures, if you do herbal medications they cost less and are just as effective. If you get him groomed that may be another bill, but sometimes you can do that yourself if it just needs trimming,My dogs haven't gotten hurt so badly that they've had to go to the vet. And they don't demand a lot for toys and treats. If the dog has a large area to get plenty of exercise and play, and a playmate, it will be happy. They need just as much physical and mental stimulation as you do.So really long term is food, and upkeep of shots if you're into that.Dogs are not as expensive as you might think. Especially if you have faith in your dog and don't take him to the vet for every little thing.
