Benadryl dosage for German Shepherds?

The vet told me I could give my dog 25mg capsules of Benadryl for her allergies.I cannot remember if it was 2 pills or 3 pills.I also cannot remember if it was once a day, every 6 hours, etc.Does anyone give Benadryl to their GSD? If so, how much and how often.Thanks!She weighs 58 lbs.The vet told me on my way out the door so I didn't have a chance to write it down.

I have been told by vets that you can give 1 mg / lb body weight, so 2 would be the right number for a 58 lb dog.I think that's once a day.

I use to safely give my dog 25 mg (1 pill) to my 32 lb. dog twice a day.

the dose is 1mg/pound (95% sure) a slight overdose isn't a huge deal if it is wrong... so that would mean 2 capsules and it is generally given 2 times a day. I would call your vet to double check before giving it though, it isn't going to hurt the dog to wait a few more hours.

If he said you could give 25 mg capsules of Benedryl, then you should call him for how many you should give. he's your vet, he knows better than anyone here, when it comes to a drug that can cause antihistimine toxicity if you over do it..Don't trust anyone here w/ your dogs life.

If you made a visit to the vet due to the allergies is anything written on the receipt as far as amount?

The 1 mg/lb is the correct dosage. I have a female Lab that has allergies. She gets 2-25 mg. capsules 3 times a day(vets' prescription). It doesn't slow her down or make her drowsy.

It has to be given by weight so call the vet and ask but you should also have been told that if you give it for more than 3 days straight your dog will probably get addicted to it.
