How to register a service dog in the UK?

A friend of mine has had her dog trained to help her with daily tasks - She has a psychiatric disability and needs her dog to help with a lot of tasks and warn her if she has an attack coming on. He has been trained especially to help her out with this and we are trying to find out how to get him registered as a service dog for her. Does anyone know?

Contact the disability Rights in the UK, they should be able to help you or try Dogs for the disabled as your friend has a disability. http://www.dogsforthedisabled.org/ You should expect them to carry out a full assesment of her dogs training and sociability before accepting it as a service dog though as they will be giving special priveledges to this dog and need to be sure that he/she is reliable, well-trained and safe with the public.Best of luck.

who did he get trained by ? would have thought they would know .other wise try the kennel club , they dish out recognised awards , licences , approve clubs ,trainers etc. or the A.P.T.D they also are a recognised and approve trainers they may well have the info and or lists of the people to do this . or you could try dog aid, they train pets in to service dogs rather than provide the dogs

Hi Natz, you can't get a dog registered just like that. Most support dogs are trained from puppies. The only organisation I know of that will be able to get your own dog registered as a support dog is this one -http://www.dogaid.org.uk/index.htm
