It is called mouthing and it should of been stopped when he was a puppy. Teach him the "leave" command, then when he touches your hand AT ALL with his teeth then you tell him to LEAVE its.
When he is doing this, interrupt him by giving him a raw-hide bone or toy. This way he associates biting with his bone/ toy. Always have some lying around just incase. Also if you want, take him to obidience classes. :)Hope this helped!
Dont give him a toy or bone! No thats a positive thing and will only teach him to bite more. When he bites you too hard let out a high pitched squeal, short and sharp, it should stop the dog in its tracks then stand up and cross your arms and ignore him. Dont look at him either. No communication. It will teach him that when hes playing and he bites too hard you dont like it and dont want to play anymore. This is a negative association and he should learn pretty quickly not to keep doing it. Puppies dont know how rough they are being as they get older so this needs to be stopped before he accidently hurts someone.Dont interact with your dog again til he calms down.Be consistent. If you dont like the behaviour its about taking away any positive association he has with that behaviour. Dont punish him with smacking or water, it doesnt work, he'll learn to avoid the punishment and not the bad behaviour. Just remember positive things for dogs are food, play and walking in which the mind moves forward.Good luck, golden retriever's, once trained, are brilliant dogs. Try games that are clever, like retreiving things you hide, it will help him use his brain and not get so much enjoyment out of biting.
tell him NO in a very stern powerful voice, but dont say his namegive him another thing to chew on like a rubber or hard toywhen he doesn't bite, reward himand be patient, goldens are like this
if he doesnt stop soon you should either get a trainer or The Dog Whisperer or any dog whisperer. if he doesnt stop soon you definitely should call a trainer ASAP.
You will need to try to keep your hands away from the teeth as much as possible. If he goes for them, try putting them behind your back. If he mouths them, try making a sound that shows it hurts and pull them back. Don't let him follow them. If he gets a little rowdy, try to calm him down by having him lay down, and rubbing his tummy. And, yes, you can give him a hardened rawhide to chew on. Better the rawhide than your hands. This phase (it is a phase) will pass, and you need to make as little of it, as you can. Chewing will help your dog get rid of its baby teeth and satisfy its chewing need. Did you know that it is beneficial for a dog to chew? Just not on your hands or things in your house! You can also pull up on the dog's collar and make him sit, but he may still try to get at your hands, since they will now be closer to his mouth.
