My relatives are coming and he does not like strangers at all. He goes berserk when we have guests over. They're going to be arriving in the early morning and my parents are going to greet them but I don't want my dog to attack them when I'm not ready to restrain him as I'll be really tired when they come. I want him to stay in my room until I have a reasonable amount of sleep. Story aside, how do I introduce him to sleep in my room? I don't have a carrier or a crate and I don't want him to sniff everything. What do I do?Note: by "attack them" I don't mean that he bites and claws. I mean he just stands there in front of them and barks his head off.

    • If your dog has a bed or something that he sleeps in, move it into your room and show him where it is. Take him into your room and let him look around and sniff around so he can get used to it. You should probably shut the door the day your guests arrive, because no matter how comfortable he is in your room, when he hears people coming into his house, he's going to go investigate them.

    • Buy a crate and crate train the dog. If he cannot mind his mannors then he can stay in his 'den'. And in the future socialize your puppies before they turn into bad dogs.. A simple act that pays for the life of the dog. Obedience classes would be a good idea as well. Owning a dog that "does not like strangers" is a law suit waiting to happen.

    • Take him for a long walk before bed. He will be tired. Try letting him snuggle up to you on the bed to keep him secure. We took our dog camping and was excpecting a disaster but our dog semt toi enjoy being close up to us and was very relaxed.

    • if you let him sleep on your bed I bet it just comes naturally. the bigger provlem that you have is that your dog wants to attack anyone that comes into your house, for that you need to socialize him better before he bites someone!

    • Move your dogs belongings such as his bed, toys, or whatever he finds comfort in, into your room. Get him use to it by breaking him in with short amounts of time at first, and keeping him in with you at night. I started putting my dog in my room when company would come. I use a baby gate in the doorway which keeps her in, yet allows her to see what's going on out of the room so she doesn't feel so scared or confined. (This also helps from your door being scratched up when they want out.) She sleeps in my room every night now and knows that's where she stays until the gate is removed.
