I know this sounds REALY weird but give your dog cat food. Dogs have a much less sensitive stomach to cats so you will find that in cat food there is a lot less junk in there so cat food is good. But do not feed your dog meat on its own try to give him/her something else with meat. The vet also told me (i have a toy poodle) that dry food is very healthy for dogs. I but Fussy cat for my dog and mix it with some dry food.
If you want to give your dog foods which is best for him, I found the best dog foods on http://www.healthierdogs.com/dog_food/best-dog-foods-ranked which is a very reliable source of dog foods that your dog may love to eat. Moreover, upon browsing on that site, I found relevant ingredients in making dog foods.
Oh, Dear! Please don't follow the advice about giving your dog cat food! Cat food causes too much uric acid for dogs. Cat food kibble is fine for the occasional small treat. There are many good dog foods that will keep your dog healthy.Wolf Creek Organics will mail dog food to you.I feed Canidae, available at most locally owned pet supply shops in USA.I like Canidae, as it keeps my dog's teeth sparkling white, keeps them acting young, and is made from all human grade ( USDA) ingredients. My 12 year old dog greets me each morning with a toy in her mouth for me to toss for her. Just go to your locally owned pet supply, and you will find a quality food, that is right for your dog. There are many, many good brands.
Well, personally, I feed raw, and I don't think there is anything above it.It can be pricey, though, depending on where you live. Usually not more than $40 a month, if you know where to buy, what to buy, and how much to buy. A lot of people buy in bulk, but you'll need a freezer for that, obviously. If you feel uncomfortable with just that, there's some information:http://www.rawlearning.com/ This is a great site that explains a lot about raw.http://www.rawfed.com/myths/ Another great site. This one talks about the many, many myths about raw feeding.http://www.usrmb.net/ USA raw feedingIf you're complete opposed, then some EXCELLENT dog food brands are Taste of the Wild, Evo, INOVA... Those are the only ones I can come up with on the spot, though.NEVER buy grocery dog food. That is all CRAP, with nothing good for the dog.
ok, after having lots of dogs together for the last 8 months, I am firm believer in pedigree. but had to reduce cost so went to old roy I vowed not to use(generic in my eyes) I tell you with my pups, they are very healthy and look terrific. and my picky dog, eats it fine, there stool looks good; dogs need lots of water. all products generally come from the same place the company's will buy from that place using there labels. 2005 a person told me use purina one, etc etc. the stool forms and continues with same type of bowl movement. remember any time changing product, there is a couple day to a week before the evident site of change. happy day!
Main site: http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/Is a good site to go on.Mostly stay away from regular grocery store brands, some examples: ole roy, pedigree, purina, eukanuba, iams, science diet, beneful, alpo, kibbles n bits, etc.... as they are just basically bad food..http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/3 star and above is good to stay on..
actually all dog foods are full contain with the vitamins that the dog needs...so no need to worry about that..the important is do not give your dog eat snack or dish that people eat...those are out of the dog needs...and no chocolate to your dog... poison for dog..do not add on salt or sugar in your dog food...
The best foods have no corn, wheat, or by-products. A named meat meal like "chicken meal" will be the first ingredient. Some foods will have "chicken" followed by "chicken meal" which is fine too.. Some of the better quality foods that are cheaper in my area are Premium Edge, Taste of the Wild, Felidae, Chicken Soup for the Dog. These aren't available at the big box stores (Petco, Petsmart) so you may have to use their website to find a store that carries it. When you look at the price it will probably be more than you're used to paying but keep in mind that your dog will need to eat less, and in the long run you may be able to cut down on vet bills Plus the poop will be smaller. If you decide to switch, do a slow transition over a week or so, maybe even two. Start with 75% old food, 25% new food. After a couple of days if there's no diarrhea/vomiting, you can up it to 50/50, etc.
When looking for a food you want to stay away from by-products, ground yellow corn, and any artificial flavors or colors. Nutro makes excellent food. They have 3 lines: Max, Natural Choice, and Ultra. With all three lines you will get an all natural, human grade food with added vitamins and minerals; no ground yellow corn, which is a filler and a big allergen among pups; no by-products, which can include heads, feet and intestines; and no artificial flavors or colors. Nutro also has the highest levels of essential fatty acids (Omega 6) to help promote healthy skin and coat and also reduce shedding. And all of their foods are 100% guaranteed! Max is your basic premium food, and from what I’ve seen, the lowest priced premium food on the market. Natural Choice has taurine added and is more geared towards dogs with specific needs (i.e. sensitive skin, sensitive stomach, allergies, etc.). And Ultra is a holistic food with more fruits and vegetables, also known as super foods, which help with your pups immune system, joints, heart, vision, brain, etc.
Choose a food that has no corn of any kind (especially corn gluten meal, this is the protein part of the corn and low quality foods add this to increase the protein percentage cheaply), no wheat and no soy of any kind (including Soybean oil). Avoid any food that uses generic terms like animal digest, animal fat, poultry fat and meat meal. These are indications of low quality foods. Avoid any food that uses the practice of "splitting," that is listing one food several times in its components, rice, rice bran, rice flour. This is a practice that the low quality foods use to make it look like there is less of an ingredient than there really is. Avoid any food that uses the artificial form of Vitamin K, menadione, also known as Vitamin K3. The natural forms of Vitamin K are Vitamin K1 and K2. Almost all dog foods have plenty of Omega 6 fatty acids, but very few add enough Omega 3. The ratio of Omega 6 to Omega is very important and the lower quality foods have a ratio of 20 to 1. The closer to even (one to one ratio) the better but between 5 and 10 to one is acceptable. Good choices are Orijen, Blue Buffalo, Wellness, Castor & Pollux, Solid Gold, Pinnacle, Dogswell, Merrick, Canidae and Taste of the Wild.
