What dog food do you say is best and why?

And how to you feel about Science Diet? That's what I feed my dogs, and I've heard people say it's crappy food, but my dogs look, feel and act great and the vet agrees.If you know of any dog food studies, please let me know them and the results, or send me the site I can see them at, thanks!

I like Science Diet and Iams. I work with different rescue groups and these are their choices also.

I use Wellness and my dog Marley always gets complemented on her shiny coat. It's not a commercial food so you can't get it at a chain or a grocery store. Marley was given the death sentence by our Vet the same week I brought her home from the pound (November, 2006) and she is still here today! I think this is the reason I started her on Wellness from that day on. I'm a firm believer in good nutrition and I have a happy healthy dog to show for it.

I like Science Diet. It is vet and rescue shelter recommended. He loves the stuff too!

Im not much for Science Diet. My dog auctually refused to eat for three days because he didnt like the food.

Food like Iams, Purina, Science diet basically take euthanized pets and grind them up and spray them across the food for "flavor", most don't even bother to take off the collars or bags they are in. Not to mention they are mostly fillers. I recommend Orijen. It is 70% meat, 30% veggies, NO GRAIN as they are not suppose to have any. I am horrible about avoiding anything I see in a commercial on TV, or on a Walmart Shelf for my dogs. I like all natural and fully digestible as much as possible. As for your vet. Canine nutrition is an elective course which most veterinarians do not take. Many schools are funded by major dog food companies with students getting free and discounted foods from the company for their animals.

purina, they use the exact same ingredience and amounts of stuff in the food as Iams. plus it's a alot cheaper.

I'm not a fan of Science Diet or Iam's (especially since Iam's experemints on animals - just search that!)I really like The Honest Kitchen which has won many awards. You can sometimes buy this cheaper at Amazon than on their site. (Our healthy, dehydrated raw pet foods offer a way to create fresh, natural meals for your pet in the comfort of your home. Orijen or a raw diet, or a commercial raw diet like Nature's Variety frozen. Why? Because I don't believe that dogs need to eat corn constituting a large portion of their diet. People can say all they want, but pedigree, iams, and purina all use corn or corn gluten meal as one of their top ingredients. It's also an ingredient known to cause allergies in dogs. Dogs need to eat MEAT, and a raw diet has the highest percentage of actual meat and organs for a dog.For a dry food I'd recommend orijen, because it's also not inclusive of corn or other grains and it's processed from table meats and never byproducts.

Eukanuba or James wellbeloved. They both seem expensive but as they are pure nutrition then a smaller amount is sufficient so works out not too bad financially. My dogs are both rescues but now have really shiny coats that people notice.

Science diet is trash, sadly most vets do not know much about dog nutrition. Most of what they "know" comes from the companies themselves, or they sell the food simply because they get money for selling it.I fed my dog Science Diet for awhile, and then she started throwing up every day. Switched her to a vet sensitive stomach made by science diet and nothing changed. Then her allergies started to flare so I witched her to Limited Allergen Purnia didn't help. Eventually I learned about doggy nutrition and switched to TimberWolf Organics. I think the best kibble diet is Orijen, but if I had the money and freezer space I would feed my dog an entirely raw diet. I feel that these kinds of diets are best because they are the most biologically appropriate, meaning, that is what dogs are meant to eat. High protein, a fruit and vegetable here and there, and no grains. Also, my dog loves it. When I gave her her first bowl of it she grabbed some and ran away to hide it in her treat spot. She thinks I'm giving her a bowl of treats for every meal.Science Diet, and other commercial brands, are not good foods for dogs because they are basically opposite of those that are biologically appropriate. They are low in meat content, full of hard to digest corn, grains, and fillers. They also contain all kinds of artificial colors, flavors, and chemical preservatives, many of which are illegal to use in human foods because they are know to be carcinogenic! The fact that your dogs do well on them doesn't say much. Millions of people seem to be doing fine on McDonalds and Arbys, but it all catches up with them in the end.

Their bodies are picked up and bought by the truck load by "rendering plants" , that also pick up road kill, dead live stock, and etc. They are shredded, and boiled.
