She is 8 weeks old and the breeder said she has been on puppy chow. I bought her puppy chow so she wouldn't have diarrhea but I would like to change it to a better quality food. Also her poop has been a little soft lately (kind of like pudding but formed and probably thicker) do you think it could be stress or maybe the cheap dog food? Also any tips on how to change her food?

    • my puppy had the exact same thing in the beginning. it turned into diarrhea and the vet said it was a mix from the stress and poor dog food. they switch im immediately to royal canine and his poops went back to normalabout a day later! i would transfer you puppy to a better food like royal canine puppy or blue buffalo but do it in transition phases. 75% old 25% new for a few days then 50/50 for a few days then 75% new 25 % old for a few days. she should easily transition. breeders usually use very cheap puppy food so they can get it in bulk. my vet said my pup needed to be switched right away.

    • There are many good puppy foods out there, select a high quality food, then introduce it slowly. On the first day add a little of the new food to her regular diet, increasing the amount slowly.Good luck with your new puppy.

    • Good choice on changing, that food sucks! I suggest:OrijenCanidaeNatural BalanceWellness (they have a wonderful puppy food! http://www.wellnesspetfood.com/product-details.aspx?pet=dog&pid=56)Taste Of The WildChicken Soup for the dog lover's soulHaloStay away from all those foods like Purina, Eukanuba, Iams etc. Science diet & Nutro aren't that great either. Her poop issues are probably from stress but since the food sucks it could very much be that. If it keeps on I suggest maybe giving her a little bit of 100% canned pumpkin (make sure it's a 100%!!) it is a great helper in these kind of situations! And when changing foods just make it gradual, and mix a little bit of the old food in with the new so it doesn't knock her to much off balance.

    • Nutro offers lots of options for your puppy. They have Lamb Meal & Rice formulas, Large Breed Formulas, and Small Breed Formulas. Nutro foods don't contain any fillers, animal by-products, artificial preservatives, or artificial colorings, in any of their foods. Also, Nutro makes all their own foods, in their own production facilities. They do not outsource production, simply so they can have the tightest quality control available.@Kelliejh-your feeding transition instructions are perfect!
