What is the difference between cat and dog food?

I have a cat and i was wondering if i feed a cat dog food will it make him unhealthier or is the difference only the different tastes both animals like?

Each is formulated for the needs of a specific animal. In a pinch I'm sure you could give the cat dog food, but I wouldn't think it would be a good idea for the long haul.

the difference is that cat food has specific stuff they need like protiens and different ones for dogs.if u give dog food to a cat it might eat it and nothing bad will happen or cat food to a dog too.of course they taste different and cats prefer salmon or tuna flavor food and dogs dont they like meaty foods so thats a difference too.and some cat foods help stop hairballs and dogs dont spit out hairballs so thats also another difference and some other ones too but these are the main ones.

Cat food supposedly has a higher protein level than dog food. The most important item is taurine. That's an amino acid vital to a cat which it cannot make in its body (humans and dogs can). When meat is cooked the taurine is destroyed so it is added to all commercial cat food.Lack of taurine can lead to blindness or heart problems for a cat.
