What brands of dog food should I feed my dog with allergies?

I took my 2-year-old goldendoodle to the vet today. He has some scabs on his face that he's been itching and irritating for a week. The vet told me he has dermatitis, and most likely allergies too. Besides the treatment for the skin issues, the vet recommended trying a different dog food, preferably an organic one with meat as the first ingredient. Can you recommend any brands of dog food that would be good to try for a dog with allergies?

My Labrador has allergies and we feed her Blue Buffalo. It seems to have helped. They have the flavors Chicken&Rice and Sweet Potato&Fish. The Sweet Potato&Fish is better for food allergies....

You want to avoid any foods that contain wheat or corn. Dogs can't digest corn, and wheat is a cheap filler that is the number one allergy causing agent in dog foods.Blue Buffalo is a really good food. It's not the best, but it is probably the highest quality food that is easily available (at least in America, anyways). PetSmart carries blue buffalo.Just make sure you read the ingredients. No wheat, no corn, no by-products, and make sure meat or chicken or fish is the number one ingredient.EDIT: For a lab mix, your best bet is to go with a large breed formula. Like my shepherds, labs are prone to hip problems, and you want the added glucosamine for your dog's hips and joints.

I just received my dog's allergy test results because I've battled the same thing. Dogs can be allergic to any number of things and I'm online now researching a food without rice, lamb, potato, beet pulp, or dairy in it. You will never know what your dog is allergic to without a test. I did the test because I was feeding a grain-free $67 bag of dog food and can't afford that any longer and it has potato in it. And, I was giving her an allergy pill in cheese... go figure. Good luck, but an allergy test is the best way to go if you have a young or middle-aged dog.
