Those who breed working dogs and those who purchase working dogs from breeders?

Those who breed working dogs, are your dogs health tested? What about those who purchase working dogs from breeders? Are their dogs health tested too? If yes, what kind of health tests have they gone through? Just wondering........I only know a few users in here such as Curtis, Greekman, Dutch and Jen who own and breed working dogs. If you guys see this question please answer. TQ

My mother purchased some puppies from working dog stock and yes, they were fully vaccinated, dewormed, genetically tested (they were collies so they were tested for CEA), etc. The puppies also had limited AKC registration and a 2 year health guarantee, which bolstered our opinion of the breeder. We were given the vet names, phone numbers, and specific dates of all testing/vaccinations/etc done. Basically, just because they were from working stock wouldn't have given the breeder any right to sell the pups like a back yard breeder.

Both of my German Shepherds were purchased from working dog breeders. Actually, they were purchased through a broker, but not as puppies. Both were purchased to be K9s (one washed out).Both had health guarantees. Their parents have their hips rated and they had either prelim tests on their hips or, in my younger dog's case, certified hips (since he was older when we got him).As for the rest, I am not sure. All the papers are in another language (they are both Czech dogs).Add-I should add that I did not purchase the dogs, the department did, nor was I involved, so aside from the hips, I do not know what else is done. I know the hips because I have the xrays for one.

We test hips and elbows...and anything that's abnormal.We don't do hearts: if our dogs had congenital heart defects they'd be dead because we work our dogs hard well into their senior years (my last stud worked until 2 weeks before he died).We don't do eyes, gsd's are prone to 1 eye disease but it's easy enough to avoid and as far as I know there's no test for it...because you can SEE the damage. Testing is awesome but I've seen some people test for some weeeiiiiiird stuff...if the test doesn't apply to you or your breed there's no need to get it done. If you're caucasian you probably don't need a test to tell you you don't have sickle cell before having kids...use the same common sense in dog breeding.
