Can I have a real answer as to what meat meal is?

I Googled it and all I'm getting is biased propaganda by holistic dog food companies and the equivalent of dog health food websites that keep trying to get me to think that I'm poisoning my dog if I even so much as let my dog look at meat…

    • Meat meal is basically every part of the cow (or chicken) that we normally don't eat ground up and pulverized into a fine meal. It has protein...but not much else. Its a by-product of meat processing for human consumption.Hope this helps.

    • i am assuming you are using the term meat to refer to chicken, beef, etc., because "meat" meal, "meat" could be anything ... but chicken meal is chicken with the moisture removed and is actually a condensed form of protein that is good for your dog, not bad ... in fact if the first ingredient is chicken on one food and another food the first ingredient is chicken meal, the meal is actually more chicken ... chicken by-products are what you want to avoid because by-products could be beaks, hooves, feathers, etc. ... but chicken meal, beef meal, venison meal, are all good quality products, just the meat with moisture removed ..."Meat "meals" (chicken meal, turkey meal, fish meal, etc):One of the best ingredients you can see in a pet food, this means that the meat is of a decent quality and it was weighed AFTER it was dehydrated...therefore meaning the proteins are more condensed. Seeing these towards the top of the ingredient list is a great thing.Meat and Bone Meal:One of the lowest quality meat products used. The origin of the meat is suspect, as it isn't named. If the manufacturers wanted you to know what the source was, they'd name it. Since it's probably not braggable, it's just put down as "meat". Not only that, but the lowest-quality parts of the animal are generally used as well. Oh, and as the name suggest....ground bone as well. Nothing good about this one."
