What is the biggest vet bill you have paid, or are willing to pay?

my Husbands cocker spaneil had been bit by a copperhead snake and we had to rush him to the animal ER at12 in the morning. His heart had stopped and his throat had closed up. after a very scary night and a transfer to our regular vet the next day for four more days. We ended up paying close to four grand and never blinked an eye. I personally will go into debt over my dogs health, but luckly have since got pet insurance. Wheni was growing up we never took pets to the vet in my house. so i was wondering what other peoples limits were?

I would have paid it too.It depends on the situation and the prognosis. I had a dog diagnosed with cancer and the prognosis was very bad so we decided not treat. I also paid $750 for a dog that swallowed a rock and would have paid the couple thousand for the surgery had she needed it. But I have the means and the credit, so I understand why some people cannot.

I'd go $1000. I've spent $600 at one time.I might do what you did if it was an accident like that and the animal could get better, but I'm not big on doing ANYTHING just to survive (myself included).

It depends on the age and general health of the animal. I would do more for a young, otherwise healthy animal with no chronic, life-threatening diseases. I guess I would spend as much as it would take, provided I did not financially endanger my family. It wouldn't be much help if we all had to live outside, the dog included!

i would pay any amount for the healt of my dog i dont care if its more than my family can affourd ill find a way to pay it !!! no matter WHAT!!!

I would have done that too, I was at a friends place one time and this small black & white cat came in the apt. meowing and pering at me and I was petting it and than I saw it was hurt and than I saw blood on it so I brought it to the vet, and the lady there told me that that poor cat was shot with a arrow and the arrow went through it and the lady told me that they want to put the cat down because they didn't think it was going to live and I got very mad and told the lady that I did not bring the cat here for you people to kill it, I brought the cat here for you people to make the cat well she cept saying she wanted to put the cat down and I told her "NO" you make the cat well and she said it will cost too much, I yelled at her and told her to make the cat well I'll pay for it she she went in the back room for the thired time and after a very long time"hours" she came back out and told me she will make the cat well that the cat needs a operation and I told her well do it, so she turned around and went back in the back room and I left and went home and she called and told me that the cat needed two more operations and than I told her again to do what she had to do and than a few days later she called and told me that the cat is well and they bandaged her up and told me that the cat was ready for me to pick it up and I had to give it medication, she told me I had to pay her $360 something dollars so I pay her and took the cat home

a lot of it would depend on the prognosis - one of my dogs was diagnosed with spleenic cancer @ 12 1/2 yrs old. it would have cost 5-6 thousand and no guarantee she would even survive the surgery. i decided that i would keep her comfortable as long as i could and that when the time came, she would go peacefully in my arms, not on some cold operating table. she lived a little over a year after that, and the drs. all said they had never seen a dog live that long with as large a tumor as she had. in another instance, i had a 3 yr. old cat that had polyps in his ear canals. they told me that they could do surgery and the chances of them coming back were 1 in 1000. it cost me between $ 4000 & 4500 for the tests, surgery, hospitalization etc etc etc, but i did it because he was young and the prognosis was good. they did end up coming back and the only way they could do anything was to totally close up his ear canals and he would be deaf. he had already been through so much and had given up eating. i think it was his way of telling me "no more please" so i held him in my arms while he went to the bridge to wait for me. he was only 4 years old and i miss him still
