There should be no "contagious" issue. Pretty safe bet your friends dog has some serious gum/dental disease going on. Could your friend afford to have the animal's teeth cleaned, with the necessary extractions done at same time? I can tell you, with things that serious, that dog is suffering.....from a retired veterinarian
He's a 16 year old Sheltie and yes, he's been to the vet about this. They stated that since he's so old no one would recommend any dental cleaning because to have this done you must put them under and he's heart would not take this procedure. He's still in fair condition, appetite good, walks a little slow, hoarse bark, has a slight cough when get up at times, not incontinent so Can anyone responding to this tell me it's time to put my dog down because of his bad breath???? Just asking.....
