Can a dog get sick from an eye wound?

Can a dog get sick from an eye wound?I have a small dog (Lhasa apso chihuahua mix) and another dog beat him up and wounded his eye. Its swollen and red and has puss coming out of it. Will it affect the dogs health? Will he get sick from it? I am going to take him to the vet monday but i am curious now.

The wound is infected and needs to be treated by a vet. He needs antibiotics and if left untreated could get a lot worse and could impair his vision.

Just like in a person, an infection can spread through the blood if not treated.

It sounds like the eye has become infected. Often irritation from a wound will result in a severe eye infection. Eye injuries are EXTREMELY painful, please take him to the Emergency vet as soon as possible and do not wait until Monday.

Vet asap...pus is from an infection. He needs meds.

Infection can always spread and kill a dog if it's not taken care of properly. I think you need to have him seen by the vet before he ends up blind.

Yes,and it could even spread to his brain.You should really try to find an emergency vet. He may end up losing the eye.

Your dog IS sick from his eye wound! Don't wait until Monday, take him to the emergency animal clinic now.
