    • I don't buy my dog food at PetSmart or any dog food chain stores... so i'm not sure what PetSmart carries.Iams isn't much better than Science Diet. You can find a lot of good, free information on the better dog foods by doing a yahoo search for Dog Food Reviews.Any dog food which has corn, wheat or by-products of these ingredients is something to steer clear of. You want a dog food which lists proteins (meats) at the top of the list... You will learn a lot by reading dog food reviews online.

    • Blue Buffalo is probably the best quality dog food they have...there are no fillers in it which is a great start...but dont be fooled, it does contain grains which are not a natural part of a dogs diets and i have heard that lots of dog pick out the so called "life source bits" in it which to me says they didnt make the food taste very good...try and find a grain free dog food, not just a no fillers one...Check into your local tractor supply and see what they have...

    • Are you limited to the big chain stores like Petsmart and Petco? Or do you have some independent pet supply stores nearby? You'd have a larger choice of high-quality foods at an independent store. Blue Buffalo, Nature's Variety and Taste of the Wild are decent foods that are available at some of the big chain stores. Some of them also carry Wellness. If you can get to an independent pet supply store, you'd have many more options, including (but not limited to): Acana, Canidae, Wellness, etc. It's been so long since I bought food in a Petco or Petsmart that I'm not sure exactly what they carry any longer.

    • Any major brand dog food is fine. Hill's, Iams, Eukanuba, Purina are all good foods. Stay away from supermarket or bargain brands as they may not contain essential nutrients. Hill's is a VERY GOOD food and I am surprised that whatever site you were on rated it so low. Every pet I have ever had was on Science or Prescription diet and they all lived well into their teens with little to no health problems, with what they had having nothing to do with nutrition (cancer, cushings disease). I would recommend that food to anyone but any of the other brands are fine. I wouldn't recommend using anything organic or homemade, they claim to be better but in reality they can lack essential minerals and nutrients. Commercial pet foods have everything that is necessary in just the right amounts for your pet to live a long and healthy life.

    • Blue Buffalo and the good dog food is very good and nutritional for your dog. BUT, it is very pricy. PetSmart makes their own food called Authority. It is all natural, no artificial coloring, made with real chicken. It is comparable to the high dollar food nutritionally, but it is very reasonably priced at about 17.99 for 18lbs bag and about 29.99 for a 35 lb bag. Check it out, its very healthy for your dog and it won't break the bank. My vet is amazed at the difference in my dogs since I've been feeding it. Hope this helps :)

    • I have researched this in depth since my poor dog died of kidney failure due to poor quality dog food!!(this is the only reason I answer these questions … to try and save a dogs life or at least to not let him/her suffer because of bad food)Fromm Dog Food is Great for dogs and cats …http://www.frommfamily.com/ $42- $45 per 30 lb bagNO fillers….some good quality grains….NO corn….gluten or by-products or wheatALL human grade food….fruits…veggies and probiotics!!WHOLE fruits and veggies!!!! Just like the kind we get at our grocery stores!check it out you wont regret it !FROMM 4 STAR product line is the best!!!!!!!FROMM is a 100% holistic dog food.FROMM also has a grain-free option called surf & turfhttp://www.tasteofthewildpetfood.com/TOTW has a high protein content (not recommeded for non athletic dogs)Taste of the Wild contains Ethoxyquin which is a toxic fish preservative. (TOTW says that the cooking process kills all of it but it scared me away from their product)around $42 for a 30 lb bag .... its the cheapest 6 star food ..http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/ lots of great dog food choices on this site !!Orijen and Welness are great but it is $60 - $80 for a 30 lb bag…high protein as well ..not good for non athletic dogsOrijen is WAY to high in protein for a non working/non-agility dog ..Fromm Is what my puppy gets it has a lower protein % and great ingredients! 5 outta 6 stars due to lower protein (but most dogs should not have high protein levels …. It makes their kidneys work overtime for no reason)You can get it online and if you go to the website you can find stores near you .. they wont be at walmarts and the like... they are in feed stores .. Agway..tractor supply stores etcIF your dog is not going to be a hard working/agility dog all this high protein can do more harm than good in the long run,,, you wont notice it now but it can take its toll on a dogs kidneys as it ages.http://4healthdogfood.tripod.com/there is also a brand called 4health at the tractor supply store.. it is only $30 for a 35 lb bag.. and it seems to be of good quality. (not as good as the foods mentioned above but it good for the price if you are on a tight budget.)It is very close in ingredients to the more expensive brandsalso of you go to http://www.tractorsupply.com you can get a printable $5 off coupon!!they have tons of low and high end foods there(including TOTW and 4 Health)
