    • Could be an underlying health issue that only your vet can address. For example, she could have a tooth issue that makes it difficult for her to chew hard kibble. If that is not the case, there are a couple of things I would suggest. Natural Choice makes a really good line of small breed foods that are formulated to meet the needs of small breed dogs. The kibble is very small, which is sometimes helpful for dogs with small mouths. Also, you could try the Natural Choice trays of soft food. My friend's dog is extremely picky and she LOVES those trays. They are also good quality with no chicken or animal by-products, no corn, no wheat and no soy. Hope that helps :)OliviaPet Nutrition SpecialistNutro

    • i personally do not like "soft" foods or treats ... the chemicals used to keep it soft are not necessary to feed a dog ... when my little guy was underweight i put him on halo grain free canned food for breakfast and then i gave him halo grain free kibble for supper ... he ate both right up (when he was on orijen he only picked at that food) ... the halo kibble is small making it easier for tiny dogs to eat it ... he is now a healthy weight ... and a big fat no to an all meat diet ...

    • Doesn't really matter if it's wet or dry. Dry food tends to have more carbs because it's held together with a baking agent, but either way, the food breaks down and gets wet in the dog's mouth.I think dry is cheaper in comparison, so there's a cost reduction factor there....I'd try to stay around the Nutro Ultra, Blue Buffalo, Merrick, Innova, Natural Balance LID (fish or red meat if you can NO CHICKEN CHECK INGREDIENTS) aisles. If she's under 6 months, make sure she has a puppy formula, but otherwise, if she likes the same food that you feed your other dogs, go for it.

    • My dog is the skinniest thing, and I've been trying to find a dog food that she will eat. So far I've only been trying hard dry dog food, but I think it might be hard for her to crunch the food quickly. I have two other big dogs, so I started off feeding her what I feed them; I tried a dog food specially marketed for little dogs but didn't see much of a difference in the way of size or softness. Is there a soft dry dog food I should try? Should I just go straight to canned dog food? Should I put her on an all-meat diet? She's a small dog so I'm not worried about the cost of feeding her more expensive dog foods, since I'm used to paying for how much a 70 lb dog eats. Thanks!

    • Avoid wet dog food at all costs unless you plan on paying extra for your dog to have teeth cleanings.Especially small breed dogs, they have a lot of dental problems - Pomeranians teeth fall out etc. There are new foods for small dogs. I give my small malti-poo Beneful for small dogs and I know Ceasars does a dry food as well.
