How expensive is it to have a Pug as a pet dog?

I am going to graduate college Saturday and want a puppy. How much time does it really require and how much money does it cost on average each month to own a dog? (I want a Pug)

Pugs are generally pretty healthy. The problem I ran into with mine is the eyes. Within a week I was spending $400 because my boy ran into a wall and received a severe scratch on his right eye. But anyway, as long as their healthy and experience no problems, the average small dog will run about $50 per year for shots, $30 a month for the best dog food.... If you spend a little more in the beginning by going with a reputable breeder that does genetic testing, you will generally end up putting out less on unexpected vet bills in the future, in addition to saving yourself some heartache.
