My six months old puppy might have urinary infection, I took her to the vet and they gave me Clavamox for 2 weeks, it didn't work, then 4 weeks, it didnt' work. Then they gave me a different one for 2 weeks, that did work but the systoms came back in a week. Now she's on it again, they took x-rays didn't see any crystals or stones, my vet said if it comes back again I might need to take her to a specialist for altra sound. Anyone knows could it be something else??We ran a culture already and my vet said Clavomox should have done the job, he doens't know why it keeps coming back. The systoms for my puppy are going very often, and in very small amount. The first time she had this there was blood but this time there's isn't.

    • I have a few questions for you!! What are her symptoms? I know your vet ran an urinalysis, but did your vet send out the urine for a culture and sensitivity? THAT should be the next step. The culture and sensitivity will grow whatever your little one has (anything from crystals to E-Coli) and will run it through every single antibiotic out there (from Clavamox to Baytril). The culture and sensitivity will let your vet know which antibiotic killed the infection and at what rate/percentages.With that information your vet will prescribe the particular antibiotic that killed the infection the best (highest percentage). You may also want to put her on prescription food for urine problems (Royal Canin SO for example) just until the situation is cleared up. Your vet should have these foods in stock.I would also request your vet to run a full blood panel. I know this may sound unnecessary, but I highly recommend it. We has a boxer puppy (6 months) with major urinary issues (we did antibiotics, cultures and sensitivities, and finally blood work and an ultrasound) and she came up as having early signs of renal failure. I am by NO means telling you your dog is in renal failure at all. I am simply explaining my reason for the blood work.Feel free to contact me.UPDATE: Is her vulva an "outie" instead on an "innie". I know this sounds silly, but females with reoccuring urinary problems usually have an outie... easier access to bacteria (since it is more exposed to the world- especially if she is a low squatter)... more infections. Since you had the c/s done, your next step should be blood work (full panel). If the blood work comes back within normal limits.. then go for the ultrasound. That is what I would do.
