How do I get my dog to become a service dog in Ontario? General Dog Discussions
No Petco or Petsmart can train a service dog in the specified training needed for one. They're not qualified. They can train the dog in basic training, like potty training and obedience training, as they do with any other dog. With Service Dogs, these need to be trained well enough that you have no fear the dog with pee or poop in a business and that the dog obeys all commands the first time. All dogs preparing for training as a service dog must be fully vaccinated and license in your state/county (if required by law), strictly obedience trained, calm/non-excitable, well socialized, non aggressive toward other animals, children and adults and potty trained (also, if possible, trained to relieve themself on command). Only AFTER all of this training is complete should the task training, needed to make the animal a service dog for a disabled person, begin. In the US, capable owners are permitted to train their own service dogs the tasks they need them to perform. Here's what I found . . .Canadian Federal Lawshttp://laws.justice.gc.ca/en/ Ontario service dog laws: http://www.servicedogcentral.org/content/node/116Some places for researching Canadian laws:http://www.canlii.org http://www.e-laws.gov.on.ca/index.html http://www.solon.org/Statutes/Canada/English/index.htmlhttp://www.law-faqs.org/Http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_law Http://canada.justice.gc.ca/en/jl/index.html Http://www.lexum.umontreal.ca/index_en.php Hope this helps.
