Pitbull puppies, like any dog, should be socialized. This means taking them everywhere, introducing them to people and other dogs and so on. Your puppy should naturally be submissive to your older dog, regardless of the breed. As long as YOU maintain the status of "leader of the pack" the dogs should get along well, but if any disagreement arises, step in as neccessary and settle the arguments between the two with firmness. Remember though that dogs tend to settle their differences acording to leadership status, and your two dogs will most liely never have to settle this, since YOU must make yourself the leader, consequently both of them should be "followers"

    • Pits normally will get along with other dogs, especially a pup that grows up around them.We have 4 rescued Pits and they all get along great.( 3 males,1 female all have been fixed)Your older dog will train the pup, playing, soft bites etc.95% of adult dogs will not hurt a pup.Your Pit may get a few nips but that is a correction ,not a bite to hurt. Our 5yr. old male has raised the other 3(2yr,2yr and a5mo.) never a problem.Your Pit may be very vocal when they play(growling, whining)When ours play it sounds like they are killing each other.Good Luck

    • Pits are good dogs. They can get aggressive, if not properly trained. Yes they can get alone with other dogs, if introduced at a young age. My brother who has 3 dogs, rescued a pit from a kill shelter. It was 1 year old and was very aggressive to his other dogs. He had to give the dog up.. so i'm sure your puppy will be ok

    • Your puppy and your spaniel will become loyal friends. Are they same sex? If not then things should be great. If so then you may have to have the puppy neutered so that his testosterone doesn't start leaping and they start having scraps. This may not happen but it would be safest. I have 2 male neutered and 2 female 1 neutered 1 not (purely cos she hasn't ever had a season) and they all get along great. Don't believe what you read in the press, but at least you are doing some research. Proper training and socialisation is a must.

    • I have a 5 year old springer spaniel ( @ 50lbs) and I have aquired a pitbull puppy. This was very unplanned and I am wondering if they will have a problem getting along when the puppy is grown. So far, so good, but it has only been 2 days.

    • If it was unplanned, then that's the first problem. Pitbulls can be great dogs. But many can be dog aggressive. Proper socialization is a must, and if you don't think you can handle it, then the puppy will need a new home. Often, puppies will be fine but problems will arise when older. Doesn't mean that this particular puppy will. But I would contact someone in your area, a dog trainer, that can help you with this.
