WOULD A KELPIE CROSS STAFFY BE A GOOD GUARD DOG?

I would like a dog with a nice personality and nature, but at the same time one that will defend my property if any intruders come in, I'm looking at a kelpie cross staffy, I know a staffy would be good but would it matter if it were bred with a kelpie ?

    • i dont think so, first staffys- and pretty much all bully breeds make terrible guard dogs, they are just to friendly its in there nature! a pure bred kelpie would make a somewhat good watch dog, but they need extensive excercise, and without it you will end up with a troubled doglook into guardian breeds like mastiffs, rotties, gsd, dobermans ect.and remember to always go to a good reputable breeder, that does genetic testing on parents- avoid bybs, and puppy mill pups. do as much research on your intended breedand be prepared to socialize and train your dog extensively,ps.. as the below answer had already stated, which i totally agree.. dont get a guardian breed if your not an experienced dog owner, and not willing to put in the effort, to socialize and train.

    • No - don't look into guarding breeds as suggested. If you don't know what you are doing and you ask a guarding breed to guard then you will not have what you want, but a dog that has taken over the household including you. If you want a dog that just barks when it sees people outside then you can choose any dog

    • So you want a dog that will simple bark at stranger to prevent intruder entering your yard and house? No matter what YOU do not want to have a dog to actual seriously attack, as this could permently damage your LIFE and reputation and end you in JAILIf you want a MUTT, look no further then your local animal shelter.Staffy are natural friendly breed but have a pretty determined bark and NEED tones of exerciseKelpie are working farm dog so NEED quite abit more exercise and tendancies to bark excessive, as well as chase and heard which can be problematic in normal no farm environment. Kelpies generally aren't good with very young children due to there hearding instinctRemember personality is based on genetic but mostly Obedience trainning, socialisation, and exercise and if you want one of these above breeds or mix, then you are going to have to devote a lot of time to keep them mentally simulationed and have plenty of room for them as well.
