    • I read what you did, but they did not specify. Knowing ppl 100 years ago, they probably didn't even know themselves. Just enjoy your Boston. I've had two. Humphrey Dumphrey and Snapper Lon Moore. Yes I have a sense of humor. I'm a professional comedian!

    • this site is amazing to get info on dogs and their backgrounds. link is to boston though. http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/bostonterrier.htmoriginally old boston bull dogs. fighting dogs weighing over 40 lbs and bred down. they were origanially english bull and now extinct english white terrier. wealthy ppl in Boston in 1865 began interbreeding some of these dogs which resulted in a 30 lb dog named Hooper Judge. he was bred down with a smaller female and again the next male bred down with another smaller female.their offspring was then interbred with some french bull dogs providing us with the boston terrier. in 1889 they were called the American bull Terrier which wasn't accepted by bull Terrier fanciers. Also nicknamed roundheads didn't go over well so they eventually became bostom terrier after their birth place. more info on this site and also any other breed too. http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/bostonterrier

    • The Boston Terrier Club of America website has almost everything you'll ever want to know about the breed. Here's the link:http://bostonterrierclubofamerica.org/index.htmlWhen you go there, click on the "About Bostons" title in the blue header and then on "History". That will answer this specific question. You'll also want to see the breed standard -- it's illustrated with photos and diagrams to show you what a really good Boston does and does not look like. Also, here's a link to a public access site for a classic reference work about Bostons. This was written by one of the early Boston breeder/owners and was only written about 30 years after the breed was started. This book as wonderful photos of some of the earliest Bostons. A couple of things to keep in mind: Some of these photos show the originals of the breed; the breed has been improved and the dogs now match the standard better so don't view those earliest dogs as being "perfect". Also, the dogs with predominantly white bodies and/or heads reflect the use of the White English Terrier. That breed is extinct, probably because of the high rate of deafness in those dogs; that deafness is linked to the gene for all that white and it's why Bostons now are not to have so much white or 1/2 (or more) white heads.http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/18033Enjoy!
