    • Not that I am aware of. If you are set on an Afghan, call up your local animal shelters and get one for rescue (if they have them). There are tons of perfectly fantastic puppies that need homes there. If you wish not, you can always find a breeder online. My aunt is a breeder. There are safe ways of transport and all

    • afghan hounds are fairly rare and the breeders usually have waiting lists. luckily BYBers haven't gotten their mitts on this breed yet. If you want one, go to the national breed club's website and find a breeder near you.

    • A better idea is to go to the AKC website and look up the breed. In addition to learning about them, on the left hand of the page are links to the national club. On their referral list you may find a breeder close to you that you can visit to find out more, and if the breed is good for you and your family.

    • If your interesting in getting an Afghan then the first place you should look is afghansonline.com. It's a breed specific advertising site for breeders & owners to advertise upcoming breedings, current litters, recent wins, memorials, and even afghan art. There's also quite a few listings on websites like next day pets or puppy find. It's about 50/50 on good vs.bad breeders posting on those sites. It's up to you as a potential owner to sort out the good from the bad. I've never seen an add for Afghans in the paper and would be very cautious getting a dog of any breed form someone listing pups in the paper. A good breeder should be doing something with their dogs like conformation showing, Lure coursing, obedience, agility, etc. They should also be doing basic health testing and know exactly what health issues their lines are affected by.
