    • Try here especially as you are in the UKhttp://petcraftproject.proboards24.com/they have loads of things for sighthounds and you'll also be helping rescues and rescue dogs.Afghans are beautiful dogs - dont have one myself, I have greyhounds, lurchers (one is a borzoi x) I would imagine that like most sighthounds they are a bit daft and will train you in no time.Im sure your breeder will be of great help as well

    • wow! nice choice! afgan are really caring dogs...i dunno much in UK but i bought my shih tzu from this sitehttp://allfurfun.web.officelive.com/puppies.aspxits not in their list so you will have to contact them about italso i think the site is soo caring for their puppies and they wanna know first if you are a good dog owner.i was glad that i was allowed to buy from them, my puppy is so adorable!hope you find one soon!

    • Unless your breeder recommends it, you probably won't need a snood right away. It takes a terribly long time for their coats to grow out to the length at which their ears must be held back.I still don't use one on my adult affie, but I don't keep him in a show coat either. Now, the rest of this information you're probably well aware of from your own research, but I thought I'd put it out here just in case:As far as additional helpful info, apparently affies go through a very wild adolescence that can hit anytime between 7 months and two years. Since mine was an adult foundling, I didn't have to go through any of that, but the breed rescue and others I've talked to have all told me their stories about it. It might be something to question your breeder about later on. Some of the affies I've met can be a little snarly with other dogs, and nervous about people and places. Early socialisation is key, so be sure to find a good puppy playgroup one your pup has his or her shots, and put plenty of effort into making sure s/he has plenty of positive encounters with all manner of people and events. On training, I'm sure you've already learned this, but affies aren't stupid like everyone says. They just don't like to be trained with chains and electric shocks. ;) I have been training my boy with a clicker and treats since he arrived here, and he learns really fast and always listens when I tell him something.Of course, Fabio has also trained me quite a bit too...He makes sure I know when its time to get up, time to eat, time to walk, time to play, time to cuddle, and time to go to bed. Hehe! My dog and other affies I've met are very sensitive and intuitive. They always seem to know when you're tired or upset, and are right there for a sweet cuddle. They also know when they're in trouble. The only "correction" I ever give my dog is to say "Fabio, what did you do?" in a very sad voice and then I actually explain to him what he did wrong and why he should not do it again. I know that sounds a little mystical, but it seems to work (it probably has more to do with my tone of voice and redirecting his behaviour than with the lecture I give him). Obviously all dogs need a firm hand sometimes and teaching the dog to follow your rules. There's nothing wrong with interrupting and redirecting bad behaviour and issuing time outs, etc. but if you ever yell at an affie, or Dog forbid, strike him, you'll see him crumple like a leaf (though on the two occasions I've discovered Fabio "redesigning" the garden, I've seen fit to yell at him proper.)Just my take on things that are very different about Afghans compared to other dogs. Congratulations of the puppy! :)
