What do I do for my dog if he has a cold?

I treat my dogs with over-the-counter generic Benadryl allergy caplets. One pill (25mg) is a good start for small dogs, but even two pills (50mg total) won't hurt your dog. It dries up nasal drip and decreases mucous seepage from their eyes. It does however typically make your dog sleepy, especially in higher dosages since it is an antihistamine and acts the same in dogs as it does in people. And it will dry your dogs mouth out as well, so expect him to drink more water.I try that for 2 days or so, every four to six hours as needed and then if there still isn't a signigficant change in my dogs condition, i take him to the vet.
