    • Ashley gave you a list. I think you need to look up the history of each breed to find out the reason for docking. Someone would have to write a book to give you the reason for all those dogs. BTW, they don't get semi-docked....they get docked at different lengths, for different reasons.

    • I'm not going to give you a list, because I'd be here typing it all day, but I can tell you the reasons. The dogs' tails would be docked for different reasons, but for working dogs, it was docked so it wouldn't get in the way of equipment, imagine having a dog pull a wheel borrow with a long tail behind him, its just annoying and in the way. Also for big house dogs, imagine a huge mastiff going through your living room with a big long tail wagging and swinging all over the place. disaster... Also, people do it because of fashion and they thing it makes the dog look better. Also do it for guard dogs. because they sometimes look more fierce and scary with a docked tail. Also for anything that has to do with fighting, because the opponent or an intruder that is being attacked by the guard dog, could easily grab the dog by the tail, and well you know. Plus he could cut the tail off which would be an easy painful way of attack to the dog...They're are many more reasons..Hope I helped :)

    • Most dog have their tails/ears done for hunting or working purposes. Some just have it done because it looks good on the breed.Boxers:ears/tailAPBT:earsCocker spaniels:tailPointer:tailDobermans:ears/tailRotties:tailMiniature pitchers: ears/tailsCane Corso: ears/tailBrittany:tailSchnauzer:tailWeimaraner:tailSmooth Fox Terrier:tailgreat danes: earsthat's all i can think of. But you don't have to get tail docked or ears cropped if you don't want to. Most people just do it for sport or look.

    • There are many different reasons for why the different breeds were/are docked or cropped, you'll have to look up the history of each breed to find out exactly why they did it.For docking it was done to prevent injury in the field, give intruders from being able to grab the dogs tail, give hunters an easy handle to pull dogs out of a hole, give consitentcy to the look of breeds that produce natural bob tails, and even give working owners a tax break because they weren't taxed for having a working dog.For croping it was done to prevent injury in a fight either from an intruder or another animal, made the dog look more intimidating to scare off intruders, prevent ear infections, and allows the dog the hear better. Now days cropping and docking is done mostly because owners like the look. As long as the procedures are done correctly there aren't any negative side effects to be really concerned about. Here's a list of all the AKC breeds that allow for docking in the standard.
