How do I stop my dog from whining?

We have a rescue dog, aged between 18 mths and 2yrs, and can't stop him from whining for attention, no matter how much he gets! We have tried the 'clicker' but it hasn't given good results as yet! Any ideas?

Try ignoring it for several days. Perhaps it will realize that whining is no good.

give him a suffed toy to play with or get a pal for him done both it works good luck

I think your dog really loves you. Is it really annoying when he whines are do you just not want to give him attention all the time? Dogs need love...just be happy that you have your dog. Imagine if you didn't have him. He would probably be in a pound or the street. Whining for people to love him. I think you should be thankful for what you have.

Hmmmm, some dogs are barkers, and some dogs are whiners, I think you picked a whiner. Not sure if there is anything you can do... you can debark a barker, but can't dewhine a whiner. Sorry

Have you ruled out illness? A dog that age is still a puppy. Is it possible he ate something and it is giving him problems internally? If a vet visit rules out illness. try a water gun. I use that to stop my dog from barking and it seems to workALL IN MODERATION of course.

My 11 yr old GSD is the champion whiner, in fact he would win Crufts if it was part of the show. Tickle him under the neck, that usually does the trick.

lol, I have a dog who does the same thing. He whines for everything but I've gotten him out of it by telling him to quiet down. Whenever he starts whining I walk up to him and say no quiet. He used to do it every morning at 7:23 on the dot. He was accustom to whining at the shelter but now he doesn't do it. We've learned each other and I know that at 7:23 he needs to go out to use the bathroom. I hope I've helped.
