I'm a door-to-door salesman I'm often confronted with aggressive dogs, how can I legally defend myself?

I often do door-to-door selling and sometimes I'm confronted with vicious pets, usually dogs. Is there a spray I can buy/use to defend myself that will not have legal repercussions if the dog is temporarily blinded or ill?? I'm unaware of such products but know that similar self-defence products exist but aimed at the intruder/attacker scenario, but not at animals. What would you do/carry??

Don't be an annoying door-to-door salesman.Some people get dogs just beacuse of people like you.

as far as i know there is nothing you can do. if you are going to their home then you are responsible for any attack by their animal

Legally you can defend yourself, but it's a risk you take when you're on someone's else's property.

NOThat is what is commonly known as "occupational hazard". If you don't like the dogs, do another job. What right do you have to knock on peoples doors uninvited anyway?The dog lives there, you do not.

a spray bottle filled with a mixture of water and lemon/citrus juice.When the dog gets too aggressive, spray it towards him- dogs hate the smell of lemons...he just run a mile (hopefully! or you could end up antagonising it more!!! lol only joking !)

I am not sure you can. They way that they will look at it is that you are 'trespasing', so why should you even have the right to defend yourself. But I do see your point of view, and truly sympatise

I would stop bugging people in their homes, especially at the dinner hour.Give them a call (still annoying, but you gotta do something right), and they will ask you to come over if they want to see your product.I can't even imagine what I would do if you ever temporarily blinded or sickened my dog!!
