    • DON'T GO TO A PET SHOP! All those pups are from puppy mills, where their moms are forced to pop out littler after littler nonstop in a tiny cage and no exercise unless they are creating more pups. And if you go for the tiniest, those would be of teacup variety, and the supposed "well-bred" ones with the uber-huge eyes and rounded heads are actually in pain. The big round cute heads are a result of water in the head, and it hurts. Go to a shelter and get a sweet, well-behaved dog that's already a small adult. Save one from death, or just don't bother. And speaking from experience... larger dogs are way more friendly than the tiny ankle biters. You're more likely to get bitten from a spoiled toy poodle than a well behaved pit.

    • Teacup dogs stay small... but, then again, they also are the most expensive to care for, are likely to die young, may never develop completely, and will likely have chronic health issues.Standard sized yorkies, pomeranians, chihuahuas, miniature dachshunds, and toy poodles are all small.

Check with your local shelters, too, as there could be some pretty small dogs waiting for a home. Not all small dogs have to be Toy breeds either. I would suggest not "buying" a dog (from a pet store, etc.) because, although cute, tend to be bred in puppy mills. Here's a link for Small Dog breeds:http://www.allsmalldogbreeds.com/small-dog-breeds-a-to-z.htmlIf the link doesn't work, copy/paste it into your search bar.

    • There is no such thing as a teacup. Teacup is a term used by backyard breeders and puppy mills to try and make you think you're getting something special. If someone offers to sell you a teacup anything you can be sure this is someone you do not want to buy a puppy from. As for small dogs Google "AKC Toy Group". This will give you a complete list of the toy breeds.
