What are some good small dogs?

My family and I are going to get a dog soon and we want a small dog. Not to small like a Chihuahua or a Yorkie but about the same size as a Maltese.

Small shelter dogs are the best. I'm sure you'll find one to fit your family, AND you'll save a life at the same time. Have fun!

West highland terrier and cairn terrier. They're so scruffy and lively.

I have a border Terrier they're sweet, but my girlfriend has a Chihuahua maltese cross and they're cute

i think a miniature pinscher is a good choice

Assuming "good" here means healthy and suitable for families, Jack Russell would be a good choice if you want a pure-bred dog. Boxers, any terriers, Bulldogs, are all good but some of them can carry health problems because of their pure-bred genetics. As a rule, cross bred dogs are healthier.
